Being a Doer of the
Word
By Suzanne Leitz |
"But prove yourselves doers of the word,
and not merely hearers who delude themselves. For if anyone is a hearer of the
word and not a doer, he is like a man who looks at his natural face in a
mirror; for once he has looked at himself and gone away, he has immediately
forgotten what kind of person he was.
"But one who looks intently at the perfect
law, the law of liberty, and abides by it, not having become a forgetful
hearer but an effectual doer, this man shall be blessed in what he does."
(James 1:22-25)
It doesn't matter how much or how little you
know of God's Word; until you begin practicing what you know, the Word will
never be alive and active in your life.
In learning a sport, for example, you can read
all the books ever written about good technique, read all the do-it-yourself
manuals written by professionals, memorize all the rules of the sport from the
encyclopedia. But knowing about a sport and actually playing it are two
different things. Until you PUT INTO PRACTICE what you've learned, you will
never be a success at playing the sport.
The same is true with the Bible. If you only
read it and read about it and listen to it preached without acting upon it,
you deceive yourself into thinking it is active in your life. The Word is only
active when acted upon.
It's not as important how much knowledge you
have as what you do with what you know.
