November 2, 2006 God's Benefit Package
"Praise the
LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits--who forgives all
your sins and heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from
the pit and crowns you with love and compassion, who satisfies your
desires with good things so that your youth is renewed like the
eagle's." (Psalm 103:2-5 NIV)
Well, you just can't beat a benefit package like
that. As one saying goes, "God's benefits are out of this world." Yes,
that's true. But they are also in this world.
Perhaps the best benefit is that he "forgives
all your sins." This benefit sets us in right-standing with God. No more
not-good-enough-wormy existence. This right standing enables us to boldly
enter His presence in THIS world. To pray with confidence and authority.
But not to be sneezed at (pun intended) is the
terrific "heals AAAALLLLLL your diseases" benefit. That's right, ALL. Yes,
ALL. Every one. None left out. I'll take it. Oh, yes, you have to take it.
The first benefit is sufficient. The second is
icing on the cake. But does God stop there? Nooo, He keeps giving and
giving. That's what He does naturally, you see. He's the More-Than-Enough
God. Not "Just Enough." Not "Barely Enough." After forgiving all our sins
and healing all our diseases, he redeems our life from the pit and crowns us
with love and compassion. Because even if you are forgiven and healed,
sometimes life is the pits. This is, of course, when we should "forget not
all his benefits," knowing that He will get us out of the pits! Well, that's
good news for SOMEbody! Probably EVERYbody from time to time.
And you know what else? Like a loving father,
much better even than a good earthly daddy, He satisfies our desires with
good things. How cool. How really thoughtful. How above and beyond.
Why would we ever want to forget any of these
benefits? They're really UNforgettable!
