Have you ever gone through a spiritually dry
season where your prayers seemed like meaningless words uttered vainly from a
numbed heart and God seemed a million miles away? Or maybe you even
stopped praying for lack of motivation or desire. You knew you needed to pray,
but you didn't want to. You knew you needed to read the Bible, but you didn't
want to. Yet deep down, you WANTED to want to.
These are the times you need to return to the
basics. Get back to your honest one-on-one relationship with God. "Trust,
lean on, rely on and have confidence in Him at all times, you people; pour out
your heart before Him. God is a refuge for us--a fortress and high tower.
Selah (pause and calmly think of that)!" (Psalm 62:8). Begin to tell God
what He means to you, and if you're still at a loss, speak the words of the
psalmist: "I love You fervently and devotedly, O Lord, my strength. The
Lord is my rock, my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my keen and firm
strength in Whom I will trust and take refuge, my shield, and the horn of my salvation,
my high tower." (Psalm 18:2). "In You, O Lord, do I put my trust and
seek refuge...Be my rock of refuge, a strong fortress to save me! Yes, You are
my rock and my fortress; therefore for Your name's sake lead me and guide
me." (Psalm 31:1-2). "You will show me the path of life; in Your
presence is fullness of joy..." (Psalm 16:11). "I have called upon
You and You have healed me." (Psalm 30:2). "You are a hiding place
for me; You, Lord, preserve me from trouble; You surround me with songs and
shouts of deliverance." (Psalm 32:7). "In peace I will both lie down
and sleep, for You, Lord, alone make me dwell in safety and confident
trust." (Psalm 4:8).
Begin to speak these and many more scriptures.
The Word of God is alive and powerful. Soon the words will settle in your
heart and stir you up. Rekindle your relationship with the Lord. He
desires that close fellowship with you. He paid a high price (Jesus)
so you could enjoy access to His presence. Leave Your spiritual wilderness and
return to God.
