Fooling Yourself?
By Suzanne Leitz |
If you're out of fellowship with God, you know
it. As a famous quote goes, "You can fool some of the people some of the
time, but you can't fool all the people all the time." I'd like to add to
that, you may even fool all the people all the time, but you can't fool God,
and you can't fool yourself--at least not for very long.
If you're out of fellowship with God, you know
it. Your family may suspect it, but you know it. Your friends may or may not
suspect it, but you know it. Your church may think you're right up there with
Billy Graham or Mother Theresa, but if you're out of fellowship with God, you know
it.
And it'll drive you crazy until you do
something about it.
It's all part of the process. You give
your life to God and begin to live for Him. Sometimes you make a mistake;
the Holy Spirit shows you and you make it right. You continue living for God.
But if while living for God you sin then refuse
to acknowledge you've sinned when the Holy Spirit convicts you about it, you put
yourself in trouble. Don't be fooled; either you're going forward with God or
you're going backward. There's no static relationship with Him. And if you're
not in fellowship with Him, if you're not going forward with Him, you know it.
But here's the good news: If you know you're
not in fellowship with God, you can make it right again very easily! It's not
difficult! God's not standing there with His eyebrow raised, arms crossed,
tapping one foot and saying, "Where have you been?!" NO! He's got
His arms wide open and He's been waiting for you eagerly. He loves you and
desires to have close fellowship with you. If you sin, run TO God, not FROM
Him. HE is your very present help in times of trouble. He is faithful and just
to cleanse you from all unrighteousness if you confess your sin to Him. He's
FOR you, not against you!
If you're not in fellowship with God, you know
it. Why wait? Do something about it.
