Mind-Renewal
By Suzanne Leitz |
No, I'm not talking about some New
Age idea or Eastern mysticism or Transcendental Meditation. I'm talking
about Romans 12:2, "And do not be conformed to this
world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may
prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God." As
Christians (those who have confessed Jesus as
Lord of their lives), we are to engage in a daily process of mind-renewal.
How? By reading and studying God's Word.
2 Timothy 2:15 says,
"Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needs not to be
ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth." Study of the Bible is not
exclusively for those in the ministry. Know this, that we've ALL been called
to the ministry of reconciliation (2 Corinthians 5:18), that is,
bringing others to the knowledge of Christ. Of course, we are to receive
wisdom and insight from those in spiritual authority over us,, but we are not
to neglect our own personal relationship with God, which includes study of His
Word.
"But how can I study
the Bible? It's too complicated," some might say. If you're a
Christian, then Jesus said you have the Holy Spirit to guide you into all
truth (John 16:13). Read the Bible. Ask the Holy Spirit to illuminate,
to shed light and insight into what you read. You will not be disappointed.
To read and study God's Word is to
allow your spirit to receive godly nutrition, so that you may grow and mature
spiritually. To read and study the Bible is to allow yourself to be
changed--transformed by the renewing of your mind. To decide to give God and
His Word first place in your life is to reject conformity to the world and
accept His will into your life.
