Psychic Promises
By Suzanne Leitz

A few years ago I received through the mail a form letter from a self-proclaimed psychic who wrote that I had been "on her mind" lately. She informed me I would be going through a golden period of time in my life in the next few months, and if I'd send her $19.95 (Visa or Mastercard accepted), she'd inform me how to take full advantage of this special time of good fortune.  I trashed the letter.

Some time later, I received another form letter from the same psychic, stating she could not understand why I hadn't answered her letter. She told me my life could be "happy, worry-free, and filled with love and laughter." But I must send her $19.95 soon, because my golden period of time was running out. She promised me three things if I'd respond: (1) that I would be wealthy, (2) that I would love and be loved, and (3) that I would be happy.

I decided to write her back and tell her why I chose not to accept her offer.

As a Christian, one who professes Jesus as Lord of my life, I will seek only the Lord for direction. His Word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path (Psalm 119:105, Proverbs 6:23). He leads me and guides me by His Spirit within me. I hear His voice, and the voice of a stranger I will not follow (John 10:4-5). As for wealth, God has promised to supply all of my needs according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:19). According to Psalm 34:9-10, there is no want to those who revere and worship Him, and those who seek HIM (not psychics or astrology) shall not be in want of any good thing. Joshua 1:8 promises prosperity and success to those who meditate upon and study God's Word, and who do what is written therein.

Concerning love, I was loved before I was ever conceived, because God so loved me He sent Jesus to die for my sins so I could enter into a right relationship with Himself (John 3:16). As for loving others, the Bible demands it of me, and I can do so by the power of the Holy Spirit within me (Romans 5:5).

Because of who Jesus is in my life, I am happy, and I needn't seek such from a psychic, from astrology, or any other means apart from God. And the best part is, time won't run out on HIS promises.
